The Monkey Trail is the more memorable and adventurous drive — a winding route with dirt roads, tight passes, beautiful natural scenery, and, depending on the season, a creek crossing that tends to become one of the stories people remember from the trip. It offers a more rugged arrival and a stronger sense of Costa Rica’s untamed side. A 4WD vehicle is recommended for guests planning to take this route, especially during the wet season.
